The final results of the project ADRIA A (Accessibility and Development for the Re-launch of the Inner Adriatic Area) were presented on the occasion of the Final Conference of the Project on 23 October 2014 in Trieste. The project is funded by the Cross-Border Cooperation Programme Italy -Slovenia 2007-2013.
 
The Polish-Ukrainian Cooperation Foundation PAUCI conducted a training course on performance-based programme budgeting as a tool for good governance and financial transparency in Kyiv on 16-17 October, 2014.
 
The "United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Seventh Session of Team of Specialists on Innovation and Competitiveness Policies" took place in Geneva on 16 -17 October 2014. The gathering dedicated a special seminar to “Smart Specialization – Strategies for Sustainable Development”. This policy seminar laid the foundations for developing and promoting good practices and policy recommendations for Smart Specialization Strategies, relevant for countries and regions currently facing a variety of development challenges.
A CEI delegation composed of the Secretary General, Amb. Giovanni Caracciolo di Vietri, the Alternate Secretary General, Amb. Margit Weatsfelt, as well as staff members of the Secretariat paid a visit to Skopje on 16-17 October 2014 in view of the Macedonian Presidency with the Organisation in 2015. The main aim of the visit was to draft a vigorous programme of activities to be realised during next year.
 
The theme of this year's South East Europe Media Forum (SEEMF) held in Skopje on 16-17 October 2014 - Media in South East Europe: Not enough or too much information? - offered the opportunity for comprehensive and active discussions covering key topics such as the right to information access, journalism data, privacy and the protection of sources, self-regulation and quality-reporting standards. A session was also devoted to opinion making in times of conflict and lessons of the media war in Ukraine.


The RAIL4SEE Final Conference took place in Bologna on 15 October 2014. The meeting was attended by all project partners who presented their project results to several stakeholders gathering at the premises of the Emilia Romagna Region.

A publication on Science for Cultural Heritage promoted by the Association AIS3 (Association of Serbian and Italian Scientists and Scholars) includes a chapter dedicated to the KEP Italy Project on Development of Online Geodata Portal of Cultural Heritage in Novi Sad.
 
Fifteen selected participants from the University of Tirana, the Montenegrin Seismological Centre and Serbian Geophysics Association are participating in the tailor-made “ training for trainers” organised by the Italian Institute for Oceanography and Experimental Geophysics (OGS), taking place in Trieste on 13-17 October 2014.

The four-month project “On the Job Training in Humanitarian Demining and Mine Risk Education (MRE)”, which started on 11 October 2014 in Bihac (BiH), aims at improving the local capacity in the demining and Mine Risk Education sector, in order to support the local NGO Mine Detecting Dog Center (MDDC).
 
The Committee of National Coordinators (CNC) met in Trieste on 10 October 2014. The main items on the Agenda were the preparation of the CEI Summit; presentation of the activities and achievements of the Italian EU Presidency, in particular regarding the launch of the upcoming EU Strategies on the Adriatic-Ionian and the Alpine Regions as well as overview of the CEI EU-funded Projects and the future prospects, in light of the EU Multiannual Financial Framework 2014-20.
 
A Seminar “20 Years of the CEI Instrument for the Protection of Minority Rights – A Retrospective Glance and Future Challenges” was held in Trieste on 9 October 2014. It was promoted by the Austrian CEI Presidency and the CEI-Executive Secretariat on the occasion of the 20th Anniversary of the CEI Instrument.
 
The Conference of CEI Ministers for Agriculture and the Environment on “Energy Turnaround” was held in Vienna on 9 October 2014 under the Austrian CEI Presidency.

On 8 October 2014, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) organised a high-level meeting in Vienna on “Protection of Europe’s Network from Natural and Man-made Disasters ” in the framework of activities of its Economic and Environmental Committee.

The National Petroleum Committee of Serbia (NPCS) presented the results of the project “Implementation of Directive 2009/28/EC in the Field of Biofuels and Transport in the Republic of Serbia - Transfer of Best Practices” (BIOGOS) at the VIII International Forum for Clean Energy Technologies on 30 September - 1 October 2014 in Novi Sad.

The Central European Initiative (CEI) and the South East Europe Media Organisation (SEEMO), in special partnership with the German political foundation Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), have announced the winners of the “CEI SEEMO Award for Outstanding Merits in Investigative Journalism” 2014: Brankica Stanković in the section “Professional Journalists”, Sadeta Fišić, Jovana Kljajić and Maida Salkanović in the section “Young Professional Journalists”.
 
The project “Public Accountants Certification Training” aims to improve public accounting capacities by introducing international accounting standards and best practices to up to 40 students in 2014-2015, with a possibility of extending the activities to 2015-2016. A training of three local trainers per module is also envisioned. The opening event took place on 18 September 2014 in Skopje. 
 
The SEEMORE project was presented at the international conference Sustainable Urban Mobility Planning: Efficient Transport for Smarter Cities and Better Quality of Life for Citizens organised by AREA Science Park in Trieste on 25 October 2014. The event was held within the framework of the BUMP (Boosting Urban Mobility Plans) project.
Ministers, Deputy Ministers and High Officials from the Member Countries of the Central European Initiative (CEI) and from the European Commission met in Trieste (Italy) on 24 September 2014. The welcome addresses were delivered by the CEI Secretary General, Ambassador Caracciolo di Vietri, by the Director General of the Austrian Federal Ministry for Science, Research and Economy, Mr. Elmar Pichl, on behalf of the CEI Presidency, and by the President of the Friuli-Venezia-Giulia Region, Debora Serracchiani.
 
On 11-12 September 2014, RAIL4SEE Project Partners gathered in Zagreb, Croatia for an additional Project Meeting. Following the project extension, partners discussed the results of single pilots related to the hubs of Budapest, Thessaloniki, Bratislava, Zagreb, Vienna, Bologna, Venice, Trieste, Ljubljana, Sofia and Bucharest.
