Four Technical Cooperation (TC) projects targeting the transport, energy and policy dialogue sectors have been approved for financing by the CEI Fund at the EBRD, entirely contributed by Italy, with an overall financial commitment of 795,000 EUR.  This demonstrates the successful cooperation between the CEI and the EBRD in supporting the economic and social transformation process of non-EU CEI countries, thus facilitating their European path through regional cooperation.

In the framework of the postgraduate International Master in Public Procurement Management (IMPPM) at the University of Rome ToR Vergata (Italy), the Italian Association of Motorway and Tunnel Concessionaire Companies (AISCAT) has recently established a scholarship for the 2016 academic year. Candidates should have some experience in procurement and preferably be EU citizens in order to avoid delays due to visa issues. The Programme begins on 29 February and full time attendance in Rome is required until 5 July 2016.

SME representatives from Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia, Slovenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina gathered in Belgrade, Serbia, on 19 February 2016 to attend the conference “Small and medium-sized enterprises - regional networking and business improvement“.
 
The main objective of the Conference was to boost SME development in the CEI region through exchange of knowledge and good practices, networking and dialogue with public officials in support of a business-friendly environment.
 
CEI Secretary General Ambassador Giovanni Caracciolo di Vietri attended the Western Balkans Investment Summit hosted by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) at its headquarters in London on 22 February.
 
About 170 scientists from worldwide gathered in Vienna, on 14-17 February for the 41st Conference of the Middle European Cooperation in Statistical Physics (MECO41).
 
On 26 January 2016, the CEI-ener2i-MD project team from the Austrian know-how provider the Center for Social Innovation ZSI and its Moldovan recipient partners from the Agency of Innovation and Technology Transfer of Moldova (AITT)  and  the Organization for Small and Medium Enterprises Sector Development (ODIMM) met with the grantees of the Innovation Voucher Competition for Moldova to review the implementation and outcomes of the eleven funded projects.
A CEI delegation headed by Secretary General, Amb. Giovanni Caracciolo di Vietri, met the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, H.E. Igor Crnadak, and his team in Sarajevo on 8 February 2016 to discuss the programme of activities during the year.

February 2016 marks the official kick-off of the FUELPAGE project aimed at transferring best practices of fuel quality monitoring from the EU and the Czech Republic to the beneficiary target group in Serbia.

On 27-29 January 2016, the kick-off meetings of the project “Development of a training program on Management of Disaster Prevention, Preparedness and Rapid Response” were held at the premises of the project’s beneficiary institutions, i.e. the Institute of Public Health of Serbia “Dr. Milan Jovanovic Batut” in Belgrade and the Institute of Public Health of Montenegro in Podgorica.
 
Bulgarian director Iglika Triffonova is the winner of the CEI Award (3.000 EUR) assigned in the framework of the 27th edition of the Trieste Film Festival.

Her film 'The prosecutor, the defender, the father and his son', inspired by a true story, is about a trial at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in Hague, against a man accused of committing war crimes in Bosnia.

“A gradual enlargement, a long-lasting stabilisation: the European Union and the Balkans” was the topic of the conference with Franco Frattini, President of SIOI and former Italian Minister for Foreign Affairs, held in Trieste on 26 January at the MIB School of Management.
 
Experts from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia (CCIS), know-how recipient, and of the Austrian Economic Chamber (WKO), know-how provider, gathered in Belgrade on 14 January 2016 for the Kick-off meeting of the KEP AUSTRIA project ‘’Establishing Methodology for the Development of CE Application for Directive on Machinery’’ (Project MEDOCE).
The Department of Water Management at the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Novi Sad (Serbia), and the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Florence, (Italy) jointly organised the two-day workshop “StepInWEAP - Stepping Beyond Conventional Water Resources Management with WEAP”.
 
In the context of the Programme “Advanced On-the-Job Training”, the Central European Initiative (CEI) is awarding two fellowships to Young Diplomats seconded by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the CEI Member States. Selected candidates will join the CEI-Executive Secretariat in Trieste (Italy) for a period of 6 months, renewable for a maximum of another 6 months. They will receive a fellowship of €1.500,00 per month.
 
The project know-how provider from Austria, the Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies (wiiw) and the Macedonian know-how recipient, the Finance Think - Economic Research & Policy Institute, Skopje met in Vienna on 21-22 December for the kick-off meeting of the project “Heroes and she-roes: knowledge for analysis of and advocacy for equal pay for women and mothers in Macedonia (SHE-ROES)”.

The beneficiary institution of the KEP AUSTRIA project Aim@Innovations, Knowledge Center, organised in Skopje on 12 November а business breakfast for the successful finalisation and promotion of the project and its I-LAB Center. Representatives from 10 universities, research centers, NGOs and student organisations, with whom Knowledge Center had signed memoranda of cooperation in the past period, attended the event.

The International Conference on Migration held in Skopje on 15-16 December under the Macedonian CEI Presidency, was hosted by H.E. Nikola Poposki, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Macedonia.
