Kick – off Meeting: KEP Project “Krapina Zagorje County Rural Development Strategy”

The activities for the Project entitled “Krapina Zagorje County Rural Development Strategy” started last week (25 February) with a kick-off meeting in Zabok, Croatia. The project, supported through the CEI Know-how Exchange Programme (KEP), brings together a Slovenian and a Croatian development agency, which have partnered to draft the Rural Development Strategy for the Krapina Zagorje County.

The event, which was organised as a town hall meeting, gathered representatives of all of the main stakeholders involved in the development of a new strategy. In the presence of an audience of about 60 locals, the gathering was opened by the CEI and the Razvojna Agencija Kozjansko (Development agency Kozjansko), the project know-how donor.

Technical presentations were delivered by Mr Ines Kos, Director of the Zagorje Development Agency; Mr Marin Kukoc, Head of Office for development programmes and capital investment in the Croatian Ministry of Agriculture, Fishery and Rural Development; and Mr Igor Hrovatic, Director of Slovenian Chamber of Agriculture and Forestry. Special attention was paid to the transition already carried out in Croatia, in the sector of rural development and on the challenges ahead as well as to the lessons learned in Slovenia during the country’s accession processes to the European Union.   The strategy which is expected to result from this project will include a SWOT analyses (evaluation of Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats), will identify the main goals, priorities and evaluation measures, and propose solutions for the management of natural resources, action plans and financial frameworks. The Slovenian Development Agency Kozjansko will assist Zagorje Development Agency in drafting the strategy and will be engaged in promotional activities – especially in moderating round tables and public fora, such as the meeting last week. The strategy is expected to be finalised in June when it will be presented for the adoption by the Zagorje County Council.   The project is part-financed through the CEI Trust Fund at the EBRD under the CEI Know-how Exchange Programme.   For more information on this project and on the CEI Know-How Exchange Programme: http://ceinet.org/KEP
